The Historical Peninsula is Istanbul's oldest settlement area. Founded by Megarian colonists in 660 BC, it has seen continuous settlement from Byzantion to the present day. It became the capital of the Byzantine Empire as Constantinople and became the heart of the Ottoman Empire after the conquest of Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1453. It contains a historical structure in every corner and a story in every street.
